Our price guide

What labiaplasty costs

Typical full prices in Ireland, from a local-anaesthetic day case to a hospital operation.

ProcedureTypical cost in IrelandWhat moves the price
Labiaplasty (inner lips), all in€3,000 to €7,000The technique, local or general anaesthetic, a day clinic or a hospital, and whether the hood is reduced too
Labiaplasty under local anaesthetic, day clinicFrom about €3,300Home the same day; some clinics include the consultation and the check-ups
Consultation with the surgeonFree to €200Free at some clinics, sometimes by video first; sometimes taken off the price
Vaginoplasty (a different operation)€6,000 to €7,500Tightens the vagina itself; a longer operation, not part of a labiaplasty

What's included

  • The surgeon's fee and the clinic or hospital fee
  • The anaesthetic, and the anaesthetist for a general
  • Dissolving stitches, dressings and painkillers to take home
  • Your check-ups afterwards, and a number to ring at night

What pushes it up or down

  • Up: a general anaesthetic in a hospital theatre
  • Up: reducing the clitoral hood in the same operation, or a revision of earlier surgery
  • Down: a trim under local anaesthetic in a day clinic
  • Not a factor: the county. Prices outside Dublin sit in the same range

Prices in euro for the full procedure. This is our guide, not a quote: the surgeon sets your price after examining you, in writing. No Irish price is published for clitoral hood reduction alone or for a revision; both are priced after an examination.

Normal varies

There's no single normal

Labia vary a lot from woman to woman, in length, shape, colour and how much they show. One side is often longer than the other. Inner lips that hang below the outer lips are common and normal.

In one London hospital study, the inner lips of 50 women aged 18 to 50 measured anywhere from 2 cm to 10 cm long. Labiaplasty is a choice for adults whose labia cause them discomfort or distress, not a correction of something abnormal.

Questions

Questions people ask

How much does labiaplasty cost in Ireland?

Our price guide puts a labiaplasty at €3,000 to €7,000 in Ireland, all in. Under local anaesthetic in a day clinic it starts from about €3,300. The price normally covers the surgeon, the anaesthetic, the clinic or hospital and your check-ups.

Is it normal for one side of the labia to be longer?

Yes. Labia vary a lot from woman to woman, in length, shape, colour and how much they show. One side is often longer than the other. Inner lips that hang below the outer lips are common and normal.

How long is recovery from labiaplasty?

Most people take about a week off a desk job, up to two weeks for physical work. Swelling and soreness settle over about two weeks, sex and strenuous exercise wait four to six weeks, and the skin takes a couple of months to heal fully.

Is labiaplasty done under general anaesthetic?

It can be done under a local anaesthetic, with or without sedation, or under a general anaesthetic. The operation takes about one to two hours, and most people go home the same day.

Can I get labiaplasty on the HSE or my health insurance?

Irish health insurance plans normally exclude cosmetic surgery, except to correct disfigurement from a condition you were born with, an accident or a disease. Labiaplasty for appearance or comfort is almost never covered. Check your own policy in writing before anything is booked.

What age can you get labiaplasty?

Only adults. Labiaplasty shouldn't be done on anyone under 18 for how the labia look, because the labia keep developing into early adulthood. If you're under 18 and something hurts, itches or worries you, talk to your GP. GPs see young people in confidence.

Will the clinic text me about it?

One clinic contacts you, by phone or email, only if you ask. We never mention the procedure in texts, and we ask the clinic not to name it in a text or a voicemail either.
